The Altus Times is welcoming managing editor, Kathleen Guill, to their staff.

Guill is a 2016 graduate of Cameron University where she studied English and Journalism. Guill has won various creative writing and photography awards, including her most recent award, the OG&E 2021 Photo of the Year through the Oklahoma Press Association.

Guill has worked for the Frederick Press-Leader since June of 2016, where she began as a reporter and photographer before moving up to editor.

Guill is married to Brent Guill and they have three boys, ages 17, 16, and 13.

Guill’s hobbies include photography and dressing in Victorian era clothing.

“I am excited to continue working with Kevin to cover Jackson County, and although there will be some challenges, covering such a large area, I am sure with the public’s help, we will continue to bring you great local coverage,” Guill said.

Although Guill has been named managing editor, that doesn’t mean Kevin Hilley is going anywhere. He has taken on the role of Office Manager and will continue reporting on some local events and photographing sports.

You can reach Hilley at [email protected]

Hilley has been editor of the Altus Times since July 2020, during which time he and the Times received critical acclaim and awards for journalism and photography.

His career includes reporting and editing the Atoka County Times and the Antlers American.

“Having Kathleen as editor is going to really invigorate our readership at the Times,” said Hilley. ‘It’s going to be great.”

Publisher Josh Umholtz said he’s excited about the changes.

“I’m so incredibly grateful for the contribution these two stellar professionals have made to our newspapers and communities in their previous roles,” he said. “I’m beyond excited to witness the impact these two will inevitably make in their new positions as we endeavor to enhance our local coverage, explore new and exciting advertising opportunities for area businesses, and continue chronicling the history of the towns we serve. The future is bright!”
