ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE – The 97th Training Squadron hit a 16-year high in graduating aircrew members that came through Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma, during fiscal year 2023. The squadron manages the training and well-being of students at Altus AFB for C-17 Globemaster III, KC-46 Pegasus, and KC-135 Stratotanker formal training.

The Altus Bulldogs traveled to Elgin last Friday to take on the Owls. The Owls are ranked in the top ten of 5A football.

John and Denise Phelan were chosen as Honorary Drum Majors at last Friday night’s football game. They were both raised in Air Force families that moved to Altus for retirement.

It started to feel like football season last Friday as the temperatures dropped and the lights came on sooner. The Lawton McArthur Highlanders traveled to Altus to do battle with the hometown Bulldogs. The Bulldogs would stay in the game throughout the first half, but ultimately couldn’t handle McArthur’s second half rally. The final score was Altus 7 McArthur 31.
