Inez was born Aug. 15, 1938 in Altus to Henry and Clara (Kennedy) Pumroy. She attended the Altus School system and graduated from Altus High School. She married the love of her life, Matthew “Matt” Bassett Sr. in Vernon, Texas on March 31, 1956. She was a waitress most of her life, having worked at Benny’s, KoKo’s, Sagamar, as well as managing the Elk’s Golf and County Club. Inez never saw a stranger and loved to visit with her many friends. She loved garage sales and shopping. Inez loved to travel and especially her many road trips across the United States in the truck with Matt. Some of her special friends were the Golden Girls. They were a very close group of friends, and met regularly for lunches. She was a regular at the Sonic Drive Inn, going at least once a day for ice cream for her and her special canine companion, Bubba. Inez was all about comfort. She was known for her casual dress of jeans, T-shirts and moccasins.
Inez is survived by her children, Debbie Bassett of Lawton, Gaye Bassett of Altus, Matt Bassett Jr. of Sanford, N.C., and Mark Bassett of Burns Flat; one sister, Norma Byrum of Altus; one brother, John Melford “Buddy” Pumroy and wife Pam of Plantation, Fla.; grandchildren, Abrum Bassett of Elk City, Tori Bassett of Sayre, Matthew Bassett III of Sanford, and Chalton Bassett of Sanford; two great-grandchildren, Ariana and Isabella; as well many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Matt Bassett Sr.; her parents; and many other beloved family members.
