The Coffee Cup Bunch of the Friends of the Library will begin its 2013 Season with An Interview with the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz on Wednesday at 10 a.m. The interview will be conducted by Jennie Buchanan, program director for the Coffee Cup Bunch, and the guest artists for the program will be Daniel Yates and Clark Huey. “Daniel is a self-professed theater junkie. Most recently, he starred as the Cowardly Lion in the Poteet Theater production of The Wizard of Oz in Oklahoma City. On Wednesday, Yates will reprise that role for our Coffee Cup Bunch,” Buchanan explained. “Be prepared to be entertained! Yates is filled with talent and energy. I thoroughly enjoyed his performance at the Poteet Theater in December and was thrilled when he agreed to come to Altus and do a program for us.”
The interview recaps the Cowardly Lion’s role in The Wizard of Oz and will include performances of “If I Only Had the Nerve” and “King of the Forest” as well as “We’re Off to See the Wizard, the Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” Huey will provide the accompaniment for each of the songs as well as open the program with “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
Yates is as close to a native Oklahoman as you can get without actually being one. Born to an Oklahoman – Jerry Yates – at a Naval Air Station in Maryland, he came to Altus shortly after his birth. He is a graduate of Altus High School and Oklahoma State University. Currently, Yates is an advertising account executive for the Oklahoma Today magazine and a resident of Stillwater where he stays very busy with his four children and his wife Jennifer.
Clark Huey is a native of Southwest Oklahoma and is currently serving as Jackson County’s Assistant District Judge. The Honorable Clark Huey makes his home in Altus with his wife Gina.
The Coffee Cup Bunch of the Friends of the Library meets on the first Wednesday of each month. The meetings are free and open to the public.
