Young artists from the Altus High School arts program have contributed originals of their work to be auctioned at the Shortgrass Arts and Humanities Council’s Festival of Trees. Pictured with samples of their art are (left to right): Darbi Latham, Drake Babb and Scott Henderson.
These students have been studying art in the Altus school system for many years and are now students of Bobby Avila at the High School. They have been inspired by southwest scenes, our cowboy and western heritage, and Native American themes. Darbi works in acrylics on various backgrounds and has created a western scene for her auction piece. She plans to attend OSU in pre-med. Drake also works in acrylics and has contributed an untitled canvas of a Longhorn. He plans to attend UCO and study graphic design. Scott is interested in vast array of subjects and is creating a Native American portrait for his auction piece. He plans to attend OU with a major in history and continue his art training. Together they offer a unique sampling of their individual artistic talents. These young artists have graciously contributed their works to the Festival of Trees auction in order to help provide continued funding to support the arts in southwest Oklahoma.
The Festival of Trees will be held Thursday, Dec. 13 at 6:30 p.m., at the Altus Best Western. This festive evening offers musical entertainment and great food; along with the silent and live auctions of unique Holiday items and great gift and travel packages. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a social hour of Holiday music, the dinner and dessert buffet, and the silent auction. The live auction will start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person and are available at the Altus Chamber of Commerce 482-0210 and the SAHC Office 477-1616. All proceeds will go to the Shortgrass Arts and Humanities Council to sponsor annual projects and programs.
