The 10th Annual Coats for Kids program is now under way for Jackson County. The kick-off was Nov.1, and with the winter air moving in and the holiday season quickly approaching, your community support is needed.

The inception of Coats for Kids began with Altus Fire/Rescue Department assisting the Salvation Army with distribution of holiday gifts. When the firefighters repeatedly heard the need for children’s coats, they rallied together to ensure that no child would be left without the warmth of winter clothing.

Both NEW and GENTLY-used coats are accepted. Each year, Altus Laundry & Cleaners cleans over 400 gently-used coats that can be picked up at the Salvation Army for anyone in need. With the help of our businesses and community, donations are received for Salvation Army to wrap and distribute over 250 new coats to qualifying Jackson County families to be opened Christmas morning.

Coats and monetary donations are accepted at both fire departments until Dec. 15. For more information you may contact the Fire Chief at 481-2231.

Making a difference in the life of a child is an amazing gift. Join Altus Fire/Rescue Department, Salvation Army, and this community to ensure that children in Southwest Oklahoma have the life-saving gift of warmth this season.
