It was a frustrating night for the Altus High Bulldogs due to offensive struggles. In the end the Duncan Demons defeated the Bulldogs 60-50.

It was also frustrating on the defensive end because Altus got into foul trouble. Leading scorer Derrick Bull attracted his third foul with 22 seconds in the first quarter. He sat out a little more than three minutes of the game returned and never did get whistled for another foul. However, three Bulldogs including Kamden Phillips, Erick Sanders and Nolan Cox fouled out in the fourth quarter.

Duncan also had three that fouled out down the stretch including Darren Griffin, Ryan Cox and Dylan Dismuke.

Fifty one fouls were called in the game, 29 of which were on Altus.

Altus trailed 27-24 after Caleb Martin hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the Demons’ lead to three.

Altus did not score for almost the first five minutes of the third period. That allowed Duncan to score the first nine points of the second half and build a 36-24 lead.

It was Bull who kept the Bulldogs in the game. He scored all 11 of the Bulldogs points in the third quarter but Duncan still had a 42-35 going into the final period.

Bull made two free throws with 6:34 remaining and the Bulldogs trailed by only four at 46-42. But that was close as Altus would ever come.

The foul trouble forced Bull to go to some different combinations that he had never used before.

“That’s not an excuse, that’s just the way it happened,” Bull said. “I’m going to give Duncan credit, They have some athletes.”

Bull led all scorers with 25 points but he was the only Altus player in double figures.

“We need to get more production from some others,” Bull said. “But we have been. Erick Sanders and Mylan Ward are both averaging in double figures.”

Altus is 3-4 on the season. They will not play until Jan. 5 when they travel to Elgin.
