Altus sees increase in sales tax revenue

The City of Altus saw a sales tax revenue percentage increase of about three quarters of one per cent in August, according to the Oklahoma Tax Commission. The City received $736,674 in local sales collections based on the new 3.75% levy on retail business during the month of June.

That compares with $638,771 on a the 3% levy which was in effect at the same time last year.

The City received $32,836.62 in Use Tax Revenue for the same period, up from the same month in 2008.

Jackson County government received $105,961.88 in sales tax revenue this month based on June retail sales. This is down from the $115,845.70 for the same month last year. The county has a one half cent levy.

Eldorado had an increase in sales tax revenue for the latest reporting month, and Olustee had an increase of a dollar and 36 cents over the same month last year. Blair and Duke experienced declines.

Among those on the sales tax gainers list for the month in Southwest Oklahoma include Frederick, Hobart, Lone Wolf, Mangum and Tipton. Those showing declines include Gould, Granite and Hollis.
