As a young man, he was a member of the Altus Order of Demolay and later joined the Altus Masonic Lodge #62. Rex had many talents and attended college at Western Oklahoma State College, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Cameron University and the Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology in Okmulgee. He studied to become a jeweler, and worked in microchip manufacturing in the Silicon Valley. He served as an officer in the US Army before returning to Altus to help care for his family.

Survivors include his sister-in-law, Colleen Marshall of Altus; and his nephew, Michael Moriarity and his wife Jamie, and their daughter, Allison, all of Oklahoma City.
Rex was a wonderful friend to all who knew him. He never came for a visit empty-handed, saying that his mother taught him how to show his love and gratitude for both family and friendship. He held a special pace in his heart for his dearest friend, Jill, who joins Ivan and Daisy, Jeff and Lisa, Mike and Shannon, Mark, Jana and John, and so many others who will long remember Rexs playful spirit, generous heart, and loving soul. Smiles and laughs were always in abundance when in his presence.
