Local Toastmaster’s Compete in Speech Contest

The Red River Toastmasters Club of Altus recently hosted their local International Speech and Table Topics Contest. The contest was held at the Altus Public Library on March 9. Contestants from the Red River Toastmaster Clubs competed for a spot in the area speech contest to be held next month in Duncan, OK.

The winners for the contest were: Connie Visitacian, 1st Place - International Speech and 1st place Table Topics Speech. Kelly Baker 2nd Place - International Speech and 2nd place Table Topics Speech.

Marty Vincent Co-Chair of the speech contest would like to thank the following businesses for supporting the speech contest through donations of food and merchandise from their stores; Broadway Subway Store, McDonald’s, June’s Tasty Treats, Altus Wal-Mart Supercenter, Aquathin, and the Altus Times.

Toastmasters is an international, nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills, the purposes of the speech contests are to provide opportunities for speakers to challenge their speaking abilities, to provide learning opportunities for the audience by observing more proficient speakers, and to recognize the value of humor in speaking.

The Red River Toastmasters Club meets each Tuesday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The club meets at the Southwest Technology Center. Guests are welcome to attend at any time.
