Pull on your tube socks, lace your sneakers, and get ready to score! Beta Mothers Club of Altus is hosting their inaugural “Kicks for a Cause” Kickball Tournament on April 6. The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Missile Park in Altus, and will be a 16-team, double-elimination kickball tournament. Teams will be co-ed, and will be made up of 10 to15 players, age 14 and up.

This event is a fundraiser to support organizations in southwest Oklahoma that benefit children. Each team entering the tournament will designate an area children’s charity, youth organization, or school to receive their prize funds, should they be a winning team. The first place team will receive 50-percent of the entry fees, or a minimum of $1,500, to donate to their designated cause. The second place team will win a donation of 25-percent of the entry fees, or a minimum of $750, for their designated cause, and Beta Mothers Club has selected Food 4 Kids, the Altus Public Schools Backpacks for Kids Program, to receive the remaining 25-percent of the entry fees, or a minimum of $750. The most spirited team at the tournament will also win a $500 donation for their charity of choice.

Team registrations are now being accepted for the tournament. The first 16 teams to complete their registration packets and pay entry fees will be accepted. 100-percent of the $25 per-person entry fees will be going out as donations to local children’s causes. Teams must register before the March 25 deadline, by contacting Missy Bates at (580) 318-1137 or at missybates10@yahoo.com.

Team members will receive official tournament T-shirts, which will serve as their team uniforms. For more information or to read the tournament rules, see the “Kicks for a Cause” Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/BetaMothersKicksForACause.

This family-friendly sporting event will be free to watch and open to the public, said Gabrielle Barnett, president of Beta Mothers Club. “I am so excited about this kickball tournament, not just because our Beta Mothers Club has worked so hard to make it a success, but because of the exposure this event will give to many of our local children’s organizations that the teams will be playing for,” said Mrs. Barnett. “The awareness given to the charities and the donations going to them will be a wonderful blessing!” she added.

Beta Mothers Club is an organization made up of 40 Altus women, who are mothers and are active members of the community. The organization was formed in 1950, and since that time, its members have worked diligently to support local children’s causes. Over the past 63 years, Beta Mothers Club has organized many fundraisers, including casino nights, golf tournaments, dances, and magic shows. Through these projects, thousands of dollars have been raised to benefit the children of Altus.

During this past year alone, Beta Mothers Club has donated over $6,000 to local causes, including CASA, Project Noel, Graduation Celebration, Great Plains Literacy Council, Festival of the Trees, Altus Intermediate School’s Battle of the Books, All-Star Olympics, Altus Public Schools’ Food 4 Kids, and Relay for Life. Beta Mothers Club also recently paid to remodel the kitchen at ACMI House and gave funds to local elementary school counselors so that they could purchase clothing, shoes, and other items for needy children.
