State banking personnel contacted the Altus Times Tuesday to report a phone scam. According to the Oklahoma Bankers Association, local residents have been receiving calls from someone threatening to withhold their Medicare cards if they don’t cooperate, and give them their personal checking account information.
One local woman told the group that the caller had her bank’s routing number, and was trying to scare her into giving them her personal checking account number by threatening to stop her Medicare. OBA said that this is a scam, and not to give out your personal banking information to anyone. They said it is very easy to get any banks routing number.
If you feel you have been scammed, or get similar phone calls, contact Altus Police at 482-4121 to report it.
