Greer county jury finds Alexander guilty of Lewd Molestation

District Attorney John Wampler reports that a Greer County jury Andrew Edward Alexander, 50, of Mangum, guilty of Lewd Molestation on Friday. the jury recommended 35 years in prison.

The seven woman, five man jury deliberated for almost five hours on Friday evening before reaching a verdict around 9:30 p.m. The trial got under way on Monday with Judge Brad Benson of Frederick presiding.

Alexander was convicted of molesting an 11-year-old female on May 2, 2011, in Mangum where he lived with the girl’s mother. The mother came home from a trip to the doctor to find the girl crying in the bathroom with the lights off, and the defendant hiding behind the shower curtain. The victim told her mother what the defendant had done, and the mother took her next door and contacted the police who placed the defendant under arrest upon their arrival at the residence.

Wampler said the defendant had two prior convictions for Possession of CDS in 2007 in Jackson County, and in 2004 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Formal sentencing for Alexander is set for 1:30 p.m. on April 4.

Prosecuting the case for the State of Oklahoma was Assistant District Attorney Eric Yarborough of Mangum. Representing the defendant was Cynthia Viol of Norman.
