The Altus Public School District Board of Education recognized Rosalyn Hall for her dedication and passion for education during Monday’s regular meeting in the Board Conference Room of the Administrative Center.

“43 years ago I taught a little girl in the sixth grade,” began Superintendent Bob Drury. “She’s the only board member that’s still sitting on this board that voted for my employment when I was hired as Superintendent. She was a sweet student when I taught her in school, and a very good friend to me through adulthood.”

Rosalyn Hall attended her last Board of Education meeting signifying the close of her third and final term. “The last five years have really been awesome,” said Hall. “Just take care of those kids and give them the best education you can. I know you will,” she said. “And thank you to the board.”

The Board began the meeting with a roll call and a salute to our nation’s flag. There were no comments from the audience.

Superintendent’s reports and comments included a pay request from contractor Joe D. Hall, and a pay request from architect Boynton-Williams & Associates on high school renovations and new construction. There was a reminder of a school board training seminar to be held on Feb. 22 and 23 in Oklahoma City, and Drury also welcomed Nate Covington as a new Board member to begin next month.

Drury thanked Danny Rhodes of Blair for donating an elliptical and a treadmill to the Altus High School Athletic Department to go in the new fitness center, and expressed their great appreciation for Carl and Carmen’s Creations for “reworking” the Mitch Windle trophy.

Board members approved claims, and all items on the consent agenda.

There were no policy changes for the month to approve.

The Board accepted seven retirements and resignations, including Susan Bartlett- Speech Drama teacher of Altus Junior High, May 24; Patty Ray- Vocal Music instructor Altus High School, May 24; Donnie Bevers- Custodian AJH, June 30; Jennifer Cole- 2nd grade teacher Will Rogers Elementary May 24; Jennifer Hoogstra- 1st grade teacher Rivers Elementary, May 24; Rick Roop- Assistant Principal Altus Intermediate School, June 30, and Amy Shroeder- 4th grade Will Rogers Elementary School, May 24.

The Board also approved reassignment of district certified personnel with change of pay for Cindy Allen to Curriculum Director from Principal of Bulldog Academy, effective next school year, and district non-certified personnel with change of pay for Julie Donovan to Secretary at Altus Intermediate from ISS Supervisor at Altus Intermediate School. The list of proposed substitutes and volunteers for consideration were approved, and the Board did not go into executive session.

There was no request for approval for employment of certified or non-certified personnel on a temporary contract.
