Delmar Donald Schmidt, 78, of Altus, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013 at his home. Celebration of Life services with military honors will be held at 1 p.m., Friday at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Al Davis, Kelli McGuire and Jim Jones officiating. Cremation services are under the care of the Kincannon Funeral Home.

Delmar was born on May 21, 1936 in Fenton, Iowa to Walter John Herman and Alice Ida Martha (Laabs) Schmidt. He graduated from high school in Austin, Minn. in 1955. He served in the US Army and retired as a Master Sergeant. Delmar was a past member of the Christ Way Christian Church, a member of the First Christian Church, past commander of the American Legion and a past commander of the VFW. He enjoyed collecting old pottery and horse training. He loved spending time with his life partner of 17 years, Barbara Griffin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Patricia Carol Walden.

Survivors include his beloved best friend and soul mate, Barbara Griffin of Altus; a daughter, Laurie Juby of Broken Arrow; four sons, Anthony John Schmidt of Carrollton, Texas, Alan Rene Schmidt, Delmar Donald Schmidt, Jr. of Leavenworth, Kan., and Douglass Schmidt of Memphis, Tenn.; and three brothers, Raymond Lee Schmidt, LeRoy Walter Schmidt and Roger Schmidt, all of Austin, Minn.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
