A 23-year-old Altus man was found guilty of four crimes, including rape, following a trial in Jackson County District Court that concluded Thursday.
The jury returned the verdicts against Dewight Dejuan Jasper. The four convictions were for conspiracy, kidnapping, first degree rape and first degree robbery.
The jury recommended 22 1/2 years for the rape conviction, 10 years for first degree robbery, 20 years for kidnapping and 10 years for conspiracy.
Formal sentencing for Brown has been scheduled for January.
Brown was arrested in connection with crimes that occurred March 24, 2012 at a residence in southwest Altus, according to a court affidavit. The report states that the victim was reportedly heard screaming for help through a phone conversation. During interviews, the victim told police she had met with two males earlier in the evening at the Altus City Park.
The three went to the residence, and when the woman attempted to leave, she was put into a room of the residence. According to Altus Police Department reports, she said that one of the males held her on the floor while the other male raped her.
The victim also told police the men took money and her driver’s license from her pants and ran from the location. The woman said she then got dressed and ran to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.
Assistant District Attorney David Thomas prosecuted the case.
