John Terrell Riley, III, 64, of Wichita, Kan., passed away on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at his home. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Centennial Memorial at Altus City Cemetery. Inurnment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home.
Terrell was born on July 13, 1948 in Guthrie to John, Jr. and Helen (Maloney) Riley. He attended school in Leedey, and graduated from Hinton High School in 1966. Terrell and his brother Joe had a lawn mowing business while they were in Leedey. Terrell also helped build the First United Methodist Church in Hinton. He attended Panhandle State College in Goodwell for two years. He worked retail in Beaver, Okla., Liberal, Kan., and Wichita, Kan. While in Wichita, Terrell worked for Dillons Supermarkets and retired in the summer of 2012.
Terrell was an avid reader and a great cook. He enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends in his home. He had a green thumb and could make anything grow. Terrell painted houses and volunteered his time to paint for senior citizens. He was very skilled in woodworking, staining and refinishing woodwork.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John, Jr. and Helen Riley; paternal grandparents, John and Florence Riley, and maternal grandparents, John and Anna Maloney.
Survivors include three sisters, Linda of Clinton, Carolyn of Oklahoma City, and Ellen of Fort Worth, Texas; a brother, Joe of Hinton; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
