Marie Shirley of Eldorado passed away Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at Integris Hospital in Edmond at the age of 88.
Marie was born July 10, 1924, in Idabel to Clemmie and Richard Jones. She graduated from Clarita High School in 1942. She married Elmer Shirley March 17, 1943, in Durant. He preceded her in death in 2011 after 67 years of marriage.
She is the mother of two daughters, Sandy Richardson of Edmond, and Sharon and Douglas Kerr of Dallas, Texas. She has five grandchildren, Jason and Tiffany Hatcher of Tulsa, Scott and Amy Booker of Bedford, Texas, Shawn and Cheryl Kerr of Houston, Texas, Sunnie and Josh Cummings of Denver, Colo., and John and Andrena Mena of Austin, Texas; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Eldorado for over 50 years where she served in the choir and taught Sunday School. She worked in the Post Office of Port Chicago, Calif., during WWII while Elmer was in the Navy.
After the war they moved to Eldorado. She worked at the First State Bank for 30 years and then helped Elmer farm. She received an associate degree at Western Oklahoma State College in Altus in 1978. She was a generous and wonderful lady who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services were set for 1 p.m. today at the First Methodist Church in Eldorado with the Rev. Bobby Jones officiating. Viewing and family visitation was held at the Lowell-Tims Center on Main Street in Eldorado on Monday.
