First United Methodist Church in Altus is taking on a new vision of ministry for the Intermediate students.

Victoria Cleveland, the Children’s Pastor, at FUMC believes that during the 5th and 6th grade time period, many kids begin to make life choices that will determine what path they will take in life. Often, adults look back at their early pre-teen years and remember how painful, confusing and difficult that time of growing up was.

In 2012, this difficult time is not any easier, in fact it is most likely more traumatic. First Methodist Church is starting a Worship Service on Wednesday night’s from 6 to 7:15 p.m., specifically for 5th and 6th graders in Altus and surrounding areas. This service is called “Christ Inside” and it is designed to bring hope and promise to kids facing a world full of confusion, corruption, loneliness and doubt. Jesus is the only answer, He alone brings peace and joy.

The kick-off service will be this Wednesday ,Sept. 19. The first 100 kids through the doors will receive a free Value Meal from McDonald’s. They will be giving away $250 in cash prizes as well as many gift items donated from area merchants. They are making this service a big deal because we want all the Intermediate students to have a chance for a positive, and successful life. Making responsible choices and learning about love and forgiveness can effectively change lives. Everyone should have a place to go where they feel accepted and safe, and we at First United Methodist church will strive to provide that place for kids.
