Three Jackson County, District 1 employees recently received Road Scholar degrees from the Oklahoma State University, Center for Local Government Technology, Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP). This program is an educational certification series offered to County Commissioners, Road Foreman’s and Road Hands. It presents courses related to the technical aspects of maintaining roads and bridges in rural Oklahoma.
The entire series consists of nine courses that total approximately 120 hours of instruction and laboratory experience. Those who complete all of the courses are certified as Road Scholars. The course instruction, covers the following: Aggregate Road Maintenance, Excavation Safety, Testing for Soil Properties, Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Surveying, Equipment Maintenance, Project Maintenance and Reading and Interpreting Plans for Road and Bridge Construction.
In today’s financial challenged economy. We have to make every dollar count to keep our roads, bridges, employees and the County residents, safe from our work environment and natural disasters. Strategic thinking and critical decisions, based on the trained Road Scholars extensive knowledge, improve our roads and bridges for Jackson County residents. This training is extremely important for the continued safety of county residents and county employees.
The following individuals who received Road Scholar degrees are: Marty Clinton, District 1 Commissioner Chip Pruitt, District 1 Road Foreman Travis Cain, District 1 Road Hand/Equipment Operator Upon the graduation of these three employees, Jackson County now has four Road Scholar Certified Employees. Kim Adams, District 1 earned his degree in 2009.
