National Assisted Living Week® begins on Grandparent’s Day, Sunday, September 9 and continues until September 15, 2012. Many assisted living residents are the people who made significant contributions to our community. They have been the teachers, business people, civic leaders, public officials, farmers and ranchers, parents, and now grandparents, who have contributed so much to southwest Oklahoma. This week gives us a chance to honor these citizens’ contributions along with staff, families, friends, and volunteers of our community.

The proclamation included: Whereas, the number of elderly and disabled Americans is dramatically increasing; Whereas, assisted living is a long term care service that fosters choice, dignity, independence and autonomy in our elderly nationwide; Whereas, the theme of National Assisted Living Week® 2012- “Art for the Ages”- highlights the opportunity to share with our residents a multitude of events and activities that demonstrate how much we care for and love them;

Therefore, do I, Mayor David Webb, proclaim the week of September 9 -15, 2012 as National Assisted Living Week® in Tamarack Assisted Living Center, Altus, OK, I urge all citizens to visit friends, and loved ones who reside at these facilities and also to learn more about assisted living services and how they benefit our communities.

In honor of National Assisted Living Week®, September 9 -15, 2012, Tamarack Assisted Living will host an Italian night on September 14 for the residents and family members of Tamarack. Other special events during the week will include a visit from the 97th LRS, painting fun, an art display, and an ice cream social.
