Bulldogs fall to Ike in 2 OTs

The Lawton Eisenhower Eagles are experiencing one of their most dismal basketball seasons ever. It go a little better Friday night.

Coach Bruce Harrington’s Eagles came into their game with the Altus High Bulldogs with a 3-16 season record.

Zack Brown hit a three point shot with one second left in the second overtime to lift the Eagles to their fourth win of the season, a 74-71 triumph over the Bulldogs.

This was a frustrating loss for the Bulldogs who suffered their third consecutive setback and saw their season mark dip to 12-7.

It was frustrating in that Altus battled back from a 10-point second half deficit. It was frustrating in that they could not hold onto a five point lead with two minutes left in the game.

Creadell Pennon hit a layup with 25 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 56-56. MacArthur missed two shots in the waning seconds and the game went to overtime.

A last second shot by Altus’ Braden Warren rimmed off in the final second of the first overtime to force a second OT.

In the second extra period, the score was tied at 65, 67, 69 and when Julian Portillo made a follow shot it was knotted at 71 with 25 seconds left.

Harrington called timeout and when the Eagles came back onto the floor, they worked for a last second shot. The ball fell into the hands of Brown, who calmly knocked the three-pointer down.

Brown led the Eagles 21 points.

Altus had four players in double figures. Pennon scored 22 points, Portillo 16 points, Derrick Bull 13 points and Richards 10 points.

The Bulldogs hit only one of 11 three-point shots on the night. MacArthur made nine three-point shots.

Altus was to have played Clinton Saturday night. They travel to Lawton High on Tuesday before closing out their regular season on Friday by hosting Lawton MacArthur.
