At 6:34 p.m. Monday, July 16, the Altus Police Department was called out on this motor vehicle accident at the four-way stop intersection of Park Lane and Tamarack.

According to Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy, “The investigation showed that the driver of a 2012 Dodge Avenger, driven by 22-year old David Gebbie, was west bound on Tamarack and failed to stop at the stop sign at Park Lane and Tamarack. His vehicle struck a 2005 GMC Yukon, driven by 24-year old Amber Jackson, who was North bound. After impact the Yukon rolled onto its top.”

Gebbie was transported to JCMH by a private vehicle with an arm injury.
Jackson was transported to JCMH by ambulance with head and leg injuries. Two other passengers in the Jackson vehicle were also transported to JCMH by ambulance. The seven-year old daughter of the driver was treated for trunk and leg injuries and another seven-year old was treated for head injuries.

Those in the Jackson vehicle were all treated and released.

Murphy said, “Gebbie was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign. He told the investigating officer that he was unfamiliar with the area and did not see the stop sign.”

I can't tell you how many near missed accidents I have seen at this intersection. This is a dangerous intersection and should have a stop light installed.
