In 1990, the Western Oklahoma State College Foundation, Inc. established a scholarship endowment in honor of Jim Holland, long time college faculty member and southwest Oklahoma educator. Jim Holland’s untimely death created a desire for many friends and family members to make contributions to the Western Oklahoma State College Foundation in his memory. Jim Holland’s love for his profession and students was a unique characteristic that allowed him to be an inspiration to students and colleagues during his teaching career.
The 1st Jim Holland Memorial Golf Tournament was held in November of 1991 and each year since, the tradition has continued. In 2011 a No Golf Golf Tournament was held due to dry conditions and renovations at the course. The tournament raised $4,710.00 and brought the total endowment to $189.863.35. The 22nd Annual Jim Holland Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012. Two, three-person scramble shotgun starts will begin at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the Greens of Altus. Tournament cost includes green fees, team carts, prizes, food, drink and trophies. Many levels of sponsorship are also available for participants. The $500 sponsorship level includes an additional round of golf. Gifts to the scholarship fund may also be made in lieu of playing golf.
