ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. – The 97th Air Mobility Wing will be conducting an active shooter exercise Wednesday, June 20.

All base gates will be closed for 15-20 minutes starting around 8:30 a.m. All base personnel and individuals with business on the installation are encouraged to avoid entry or exit during this time. Base personnel, residents, and visitors may also hear exercise alerts and alert radio messages.

“Since the incident at Fort Hood, Texas, exercises like this are critical to evaluating Department of Defense response actions to an active shooter incident,” said Capt. Brandon Gorab, 97th AMW chief of wing inspections. “Base personnel have been and will continue to be intently focused on improving response plans for the safety of everyone on the installation.”

The exercise will also integrate off-base agencies to better the preparedness of the community, including the Altus Fire/Rescue Department, Altus Police Department and Jackson County Memorial Hospital.

Please direct any questions to 97th AMW Public Affairs at (580) 481-7700.

Jackson County Memorial Hospital will be participating in the disaster exercise on Wednesday. Persons entering the hospital campus may notice additional activity in and around the Emergency Room from about 8 a.m. until noon. Hospital operations, including Emergency Room treatment, Laboratory and Radiology services, will not be interrupted. Persons arriving at the hospital to receive patient care will be seen and treated. For more information call 379-5771.
