On Saturday, May 12 letter carriers in CITY will help “Stamp Out Hunger” by collecting donations on their routes for Southwest Community Action - Community Cupboard, which is a partner agencies of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. The goal of this food and fund drive is to raise more than $1million and 1 million pounds of food for the hungry in 100 central and western Oklahoma cities.

Mail carriers will be leaving bags in your mailbox the week of May 7 for collection on May 12. Fill this, or any plastic bag with non-perishable food donations and place it by your mailbox by 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 12. Most needed items include: canned meats, meat-based soups, canned fruits, canned vegetables, peanut butter, and rice and beans. Nonperishable food donations can also be dropped off at participating post offices between now and May 15. Make monetary donations online at regionalfooodbank.org or by calling 405.972.1111. Every dollar donated will provide five meals for a hungry Oklahoman.

“This food drive raises shelf-stable food and funds to help the Regional Food Bank feed more hungry Oklahomans throughout the summer months, when school is out and utility bills are high,” said Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. “When school lets out for summer break, the free and reduced-price meals, which so many children count on, will end when their classes do.”
