A man was seriously injured in an accident near Blair yesterday. According to reports from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the accident happened at about 7 p.m., on US Hwy 283, .10 miles south of County Road 152 in Jackson County.

Robert Johnson, 47, of Shreveport, La., departed the right side of the road, striking a fence, continuing north approximately 465 feet before striking an embankment. Johnson was pinned for about 15 minutes before being extricated with the Jaws of Life by Blair and Altus fire departments.

The impact caused diesel tanks to rupture, allowing fuel and other fluids from the vehicle to escape into the creek. The spill was contained and turned over to environmental management for clean-up.

Johnson was airlifted by to Comanche County Hospital in Lawton and admitted in stable condition with head, trunk internal and leg injuries.

There were no passengers in the vehicle, and no other vehicles were involved.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Seatbelts were equipped and in use.
