The annual Relay for Life event in Altus will be held at the Altus Junior High’s Marshall Field beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday with local entertainment.

The Opening Ceremony and Survivor Lap will begin at 7 p.m.

This event is held each year to not only raise money for cancer research, but to recognize and celebrate those that have passed, as well as the survivors.

A survivor is anyone who has heard the words, “You have cancer.” If you are a cancer survivor or a caregiver for someone with cancer and would like to join the walking of the first lap, report to the survivor tent and register get your T-shirt.

Activities during the event include a DJ, a giant sand pile filled with coins for the kids to dig in, bouncy houses and slides, and a live auction to begin around 9 p.m.

Auction items include baseball autographed by the WOSC Pioneers 2011 NJCAA World Series Champions, a collectible Schwinn bicycle, and several theme gift baskets.

The Luminaria Ceremony this year will feature Howie Jackson, on of Oklahoma’s Heroes of Hope. This ceremony will take place around 10 p.m.

The Relay for Life Committee invites all to come out with your lawn chairs and join this eventful evening.

For more information, contact the Survivor Chairman, Amelia McKnight, at 580-301-4668.
