Several local agencies have been working together to assist Altus resident Brenda Sears following a fire that severely damaged her home and destroyed her belongings. Individuals and businesses that wish to make a financial contribution to aid in the rebuilding of her home should make them payable to the Brenda Sears Fire Fund at the First National Bank in Altus. Persons or groups wishing to volunteer in the construction process should contact Capt. Parker with the Salvation Army 482-8577 or John Valenzuela at the Red Cross 482-5303.

A fire in Hollis, Sunday, July 31, totally destroyed a couple's bedroom. The Southwest Oklahoma Chapter of the American Red Cross has assisted with emergency needs of the family. However, they are desperately in need of bedroom furniture and bedding. If you would like to donate, please contact the chapter at 482-5303.

Landmark Baptist Church, Highway 283, north of Blair, will be holding a revival starting at 7 p.m. Aug. 1-6. Pastor Lloyd Asherfelter will be the speaker.

OSU Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service and Harmon and Jackson Counties will offer Pre-Season Wheat and Canola Meetings. In Harmon county, the meeting will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at the Gould Community Center, with a free sponsored lunch provided. In Jackson county, the meeting will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at the Jackson County Extension Office, with a free sponsored dinner provided. Topics will include variety trail results, variety discussion, and fertility and herbicide discussion.

The Altus Junior High 8th grade football team will be checking out equipment on Friday in the school's cafeteria from 5 -6:30 p.m. In order to receive equipment, students must have had a physical. Following the check out a parents meeting will be held at 7 p.m.

Altus Chapter 60 of the York Rite will hold a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4. Fellowship will be at 6 p.m. All York Rite Masons are urged to attend.

Sonic Balloon Launch for Teens will be 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at the Altus Public Library. This program is limited to teens, ages 13 and older. Snacks will be provided. For more information, call Katy at 477-2890. Sonic Restaurants sponsors the program.

The 3rd District Democratic Party retreat will be Aug. 5-6 at Quartz Mountain State Park. On Friday, Aug. 5, there will be a hot dog supper from 6 to 8:30 p.m. At 9 p.m., there will be an outdoor movie and popcorn for $2 per person. The Altus Kiwanis Club will meet at noon Friday, Aug. 5, at WOSC Student Center. Kiwanian of the Day will be Wendall Harris. Our program will be given by Jim and Helen King. They are local private investigators. The Kings will talk about the private investigations industry and related issues. All members are encouraged to attend and to invite a guest to this program.

Altus Church of God, 900 S. Park Lane, Altus is having a yard sale, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 5 and 6.

The Snyder Blue-Cats Co-Ed Softball team is sponsoring an adult co-ed softball tournament with all proceeds to benefit the Southwest Oklahoma Chapter of the American Red Cross. The tournament is to be held Aug. 5, 6 and 7 in Altus at Davis Fields. Entry fee for the tournament is $125 per team, due by Aug. 4. Free basic school supplies for students of low income families! LULAC's 3rd Annual School Supply Giveaway will be Saturday, Aug. 6, at Glad Tidings Fellowship Hall, 1505 E. Tamarack. It will start at 10 a.m. and will last until supplies run out. For more information, call 471-0920.

Jackson County EMS, Cruises, Inc. and Oklahoma Blood Institute will have a blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at the Altus Community Center on Falcon Road. All donors will have a chance to enter to win a free 7-day cruise for two.

The Old Greer County Western Heritage Assn. will meet at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, the Greer County Fairgrounds. Plans will be discussed for a Ranch Rodeo to be held in Sept. and the booth at the Black-eye Pea Festival in Hollis Aug. 13. Please attend this important meeting. The Old Greer County Western Heritage Assn. includes Greer, Harmon, Jackson, and Becham, south of the North Fork River. Anyone from these counties interested in supporting the Western Heritage of this area is welcome to attend.

Altus Church of God will be delivering dinners every Tuesday. Aug. 9, they will be having hamburgers, French fries, chocolate chip cookies. Aug. 16 will be sub sandwiches, chips and brownies. Aug. 23 will be chicken strips, mashed potatoes and gravy, roll and cake. Aug. 30 will be spaghetti and meatballs, salad, garlic toast, and cobbler. All dinners are $5 delivered. The Red Cross and the Altus Community blood drive will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the Altus Community Center. Every one donating from now until Labor Day is entered into a drawing for $1500 in FREE GAS and each donor also receives a "Classic American" blood donor t-shirt. Local restaurants are offering "Dinner for Two." Each donor will be eligible for the drawings which will be held after the blood drive. Please bring a Red Cross donor card or other valid I.D. when coming to donate. You must be at least 17 years old and in good health to donate blood. The Oklahoma Department of Corrections is hosting a job fair for Oklahoma State Reformatory from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at the American Legion Building, 203 S. Oklahoma Street, Mangum. On site testing will be administered for correctional officers, probation and parole officers, and food service supervisors. Driver's license or photo identification showing date of birth is required for testing. Prior military should also bring a copy of their DD214 form. All elementary students (grades K-4) who did not pre-enroll at an Altus elementary school last spring will need to come by the Altus Board of Education Office at 219 N. Lee and fill out paperwork to be assigned to a school before they will be allowed to register for school on Aug. 12. The Board of Education is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. daily.

Jackson County Health Department will be offering a back to school immunization clinic from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12. Please bring an original shot record with you.

The 4-H Achievement Banquet will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at Western Oklahoma State College, 2801 N. Main. 4-H members, leaders and supporters will be recognized for their outstanding achievements and contributions in the 4-H program. To RSVP, call 482-0823

The Altus All Sports Association would like all Bulldog football players from the past to attend the Blue and White scrimmage Aug. 13. Please check in at the Hall of Champions starting at 5 p.m. We will announce all names of past players and the years played during the scrimmage. The J.V. scrimmage will be at 6 p.m. followed by the Varsity at 7:30 p.m. There will be hot dogs and refreshments after the scrimmage. The OSC will host an ice cream social at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18. This special activities social is open to all officers' spouses at Altus Air Force base regardless of membership. The price is $4 for Club Altus members and $6 for nonmembers. The charity of the month is the Thrift Shop. The Prince of Peace Catholic Church will have a multi-cultural dinner and show at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 27 and at 3 p.m. Aug. 28, at the Altus Community Center on Falcon Road.
