LAWTON Tuesday was a long night for the Altus High Lady Bulldogs. They traveled to Lawton MacArthur and were defeated by the Lady Highlanders 44-12.
For the Lady Bulldogs it was the same old story. Start out slow, dig themselves a hole that they could not get out of.
The Lady Bulldogs committed nine first quarter turnovers and did not score until the 2:05 mark when Victoria Pennon hit a short jumper.
MacArthur scored the first eight points of the game and never trailed.
The Lady Bulldogs faced a 15-2 deficit going into the second quarter.
It got a little better for Altus in the second quarter even though. The Lady Bulldogs outscored MacArthur 6-5 but still trailed 20-8 at halftime.
It got worse in the third period. MacArthur pulled away and outpointed the Lady Bulldogs 13-4 in the third quarter and led 33-12.
The fourth quarter brought more frustrations to the Lady Bulldogs.
With the outcome of the game not an issue both AHS coach Randy Woolbright and MacArthur mentor Dawna Schettler went to their bench for most of the fourth quarter.
Altus failed to score in the final period and had only four points in the second half.
Pennon led Altus in scoring with eight points.
Altus is now 4-15 on the season and they will travel to Lawton Eisenhower Friday for a 6 p.m. contest.
