ALTUS - The Mangum and Mountain View/Gotebo girls and the Hollis and Mangum boys grabbed first round victories on opening night Monday of the Tri-County Basketball Tournament at the Western Oklahoma State College gym.

Mangum 61, Hollis 59 OT

Girls

Mangum overcame severe foul trouble to defeat its arch rival in overtime.

Coach Micky Lively's crew built a 10-point lead in the third quarter. They lost their two leading scorers Sarah Yates with 3:52 left in the fourth quarter and Sabrina McDonald with 3:21 remaining in the overtime period, both of whom fouled out.

Without Yates, the club's best ball handler, Mangum became turnover prone

Hollis took a 51-49 lead with 1:33 left in the game on an old fashioned three-point play by Raegan Heflin. McDonald hit a fielder with 1:07 remaining to tie it at 51-51 and that's the way it remained after regulation.

With the scored tied at 58-58 Allison Ford hit a pair of free throws with 20.1 second left in overtime to put Mangum on top 60-58. Kaeli Carothers hit one of two free throws for Hollis before Ford added another free throw with 7.8 seconds left. to make it 61-59

Hollis had one last chance to hit a three-pointer to send the game into overtime but they failed to get a shot off.

MacDonald led all scorers with 23 points. Yates collected 18 points.

Hollis was paced by Heflin's 22 points. Carothers finished with 18 points.

Mangum 67,

Mountain View/Gotebo 26

Boys

This one was easy for the Tigers who had 14 of their players crack the scoring column.

Mangum shot out to a 23-4 first quarter lead and they led 34-13 at halftime.

John Merritt led the Tigers with 11 points while Anthony Cox had ten points.

Hollis 71, Granite 45

Boys

Hollis' Calvin Davis was deadly behind the arc. He connected on seven of nine three-point opportunities and finished with 29 points. Jake Cary had 12 points and Philip Harris chipped in 11.

Granite was led by Josh Brewer's 19 points. Boone Hogg tallied 12 points.

The victory sends the Tigers into Thursday night's semifinals when they will play the winner Hollis.

Mountain View/Gotebo 58, Hobart 40

Girls

Ashley Hoover scored 18 points to lead the Tigers to an easy victory over the Lady Bearcats.

Kira Adams paced Hobart with 12 points.
