The Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course for first-time CPR participants will be taught at The Education Center at Jackson County Memorial Hospital two times in September: Saturday, Sept. 13 and Saturday Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants attend only one class. The class uses The American Heart Association curriculum and is taught by JCMH instructors. The cost is $25. Participants need to pick up a textbook and a pre-test before attending class. The Jackson County Health Department Food Handler's Classes will be held at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16 at the VFW, 500 North Veteran's Drive. Altus City Ordinance states all employees and managers of local eating or drinking establishments must attend one of the classes, if they do not have a current permit or if they only have a temporary one.
A garage and bake goods sale will be held at the Plantation Village Nursing Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12 and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 13. The center is located at 2610 Cedar Creek Drive. All proceeds are for the Paul Bryce Cancer Treatment and Research Fund. Donations for Garage sale items and bake goods will be accepted until noon Sept. 11. If it rain, the sale will be held on Sept. 19 and 20 in the center parking lot.

The benefit dinner at Altus High School on Sept. 19 has been postponed and will be rescheuled in Spring 2004.
