Shooting victim flees hospital, later arrested

Bobby Joe Hurd Jr. was arrested by U.S. Marshalls on Friday Aug. 7 in Oklahoma City. He was apprehended at a family members residence.


Bobby Joe Hurd Jr., 28, of Altus, was shot in the leg on July 29, 2015. He was shot through a window while he was laying on a sofa in his home. He was transported to Jackson County Memorial Hospital and later transferred to an Oklahoma City hospital.

Hurd fled the hospital on July 31, but was arrested by U.S. Marshalls on Friday Aug. 7 in Oklahoma City. He was apprehended at a family members residence.

The arrest warrants were issued from the Jackson County District Court on charges of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Possession of a Firearm after a Former Felony Conviction. Hurd, a registered sex offender, has previous convictions for Lewd Exhibition of a Person, Assault With a Dangerous Weapon, Knowingly Concealing Stolen Property, Unlawful delivery of a Controlled and Dangerous Substance and Unlawful Delivery of Marijuana.

He was transported from Oklahoma City to the Jackson County Jail on Friday. His bond has been set at $100,000.

Police Chief Tim Murphy said that Hurd is a known Crips gang member.
