Keep an eye out for kids

I would like to remind the citizens of Altus that Tuesday, Aug. 11, is the first day of classes for Altus Public Schools. During these summer months motorists have been traveling through our many school zones at the posted speed limits. Beginning Tuesday, those posted speed limits will change during school hours. On school days, please observe all posted speed limits and other traffic signs from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on school days. Always remember to stop for school buses that are loading and unloading our children and watch for them as they cross the street. Altus police officers will be patrolling these school zones. I’m certain our children will be excited to begin another school year, so let’s look out for them because they might not be looking out for you. The Altus Police Department wants everyone to have a safe school year. Tim Murphy Chief of Police Altus Police Department
