Bunch, Guerrero, Sherlock receive competent communicator awards

Lana Bunch, Jorge Guerrero and Michael Sherlock of the Altus Red River Toastmasters Club were recently recognized for completion of roles and projects designed to enhance their speaking skills as competent communicators.

The trio has earned their competent communicator awards after completing the requirement of preparing and presenting ten speeches. This series of speaking assignments is designed to instill a basic foundation of public speaking.

Lana Bunch has been a Toastmaster since September 2012 and currently serves as the club president and vice president of public relations for Red River. She is also vice president of public relations for Toastmasters Amplified, an advanced club that meets once a month in Lawton. Additionally, she was named Toastmaster of the year at the club, area and division level for 2014-2015. She is a home-based entrepreneur who also loves pets, gardening and cooking.

Jorge Guerrero has been a Toastmaster since January of 2015, and currently serves as the vice president of education for the Red River club and is also a member of the newly chartered, Burning Spear club that meets every first and third Tuesday on Altus Air Force Base. Guerrero is a flight service center journeyman for 97th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Altus Air Force Base and enjoys working out, sports and mountain climbing.

Michael Sherlock has been a Toastmaster since April 2015, and currently is the Sergeant-at-Arms for the Red River club. He is a contract specialist with the 97th Contracting Flight at Altus Air Force Base and is happily married with three children. Originally from California, he holds a Masters of aeronautical science degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Additionally, he loves to watch the San Francisco Giants and is also a Razorbacks fan.

All three members are regular competitors in Toastmasters speech contests and plan to continue advancing their communication and leadership skills through the Toastmasters program. The Red River Toastmasters Club meets each Tuesday at the Southwest Technology Center from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Guests are encouraged to attend.
