Altus police made an early morning arrest today after a homeowner called and reported that someone was attempting to break into his home in the 1500 block of Scott St. Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy said that police responded just before 1 a.m. and found that someone had opened an east window and attempted to enter the victims home.

“The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle,” said Murphy, “but the victim was able to provide officers with a description of the vehicle.” Police immediately found the vehicle leaving the area and pursued it for a short distance on the irrigation canal north of the victims residence.

The suspect, Jake Heath Holsey, 38, of Altus, was later taken into custody just south of the city limits of Altus on the irrigation canal.

In the Holsey vehicle police discovered a loaded firearm, drug paraphernalia, a white powdery substance believed to be methamphetamine, pills, alcohol and a hand-held police scanner. Holsey was arrested and transported to the Jackson County Jail. He was jailed on complaints of first degree burglary, possession of a dangerous and controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction, operating a radio with police frequencies for illegal purposes along with several traffic violations.
