Housing addition under construction

Work is under way to install utilities for a new housing addition to be known as Mesquite Meadows. The first water and sewer lines are being installed by Western Prairie Services, LLC of Duke. This development is the first of several proposed developments to provide additional housing for the Altus Air Force Base expansion.

The arrival of the new squadron of KC-46A Pegasus refueling aircraft next year is expected to bring several hundred new airmen and an equal number of civilian jobs. The developer of Mesquite Meadows, Nassaney Land Company, LLC of Altus, plans to have houses ready when they get here. The project was designed by local engineering firm Fox, Drechsler & Brickley, Inc.

The neighborhood will be built on a 30-acre parcel on the south side of Falcon Road between Polk Street and the cemetery, an ideal location for close access to the base. The first phase of the project includes the construction of 29 homes, the first of which may be available for sale later this year.

At full build-out, the addition is expected to have 73 new houses. Combined with two other housing additions that are in the planning and design stage, and home construction currently under way, the City of Altus hopes to complete more than 150 new homes by the summer of 2017.
