Jayden Benway and Taven Birdow inked their names on dotted lines this morning in the Altus High School cafeteria.

Over a hundred people filed into the cafeteria to witness these two All-State Bulldogs commit to their respective schools.

Today is National Signing Day in America. It is the first chance for high school athletes across the country to officially sign their names and proclaim their recruitment is over. Now they are ready for the next level.

Jayden Benway has chosen to play for Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Taven Birdow will attend Air Force to play for the Falcons.

NWOSU is located in Alva. Their football mascot is the Rangers. In 2011, the school accepted an invitation to join the Great American Conference and switch from NAIA to NCAA Division II. The Rangers won just three games last year.

Air Force is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Their mascot is the Falcons. Air Force is in the Mountain West Conference and they still run the wishbone offense. Other members of the Mountain West Conference are Boise State, Colorado State, New Mexico, Utah State, Wyoming, Fresno State, Hawaii, Nevada, San Diego State, San Jose State and the University of Las Vegas.

It looks like there will be frequent trips to California, Vegas and Hawaii for Taven.

All this excitement on signing day comes in just a little over 12 hours since Taven, Jayden and Coach Reed were acknowledged as All-State selections at the Jim Thorpe Awards banquet.

Taven was given his trophy for being named as the Offensive Player of the Year.

Coach Jeremy Reed received his trophy for being named as the Coach of the Year.

This is a big day for these kids, their families, friends and teammates as well as the Altus Bulldogs and the Altus community at large.

Gentlemen, know that you thrilled us every week in Bulldog blue and we know you will represent us well at the next level. You guys deserve all the success that comes your way. Thanks for your efforts and for being great examples for the younger Bulldogs both on and off the field.

Air Force Falcons and Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers both have stronger rosters today.

Good luck and congratulations.

GO BULLDOGS!!
