Twin sisters Chloe and Caitlyn Owenby, 9, have a lot to be excited about after getting the news that they have officially been selected to be a part of the Oklahoma City Thunder Junior Dance Team, the Rain Drops. Out of 170 girls ages 7-12, there were only 20 chosen to be on the team.
The sisters have been dancing for about four years at the Off the Wall Dance Studio in Altus and competing for three, all under the leadership of Leah Wall.
“None of this would be possible without them having the training with Leah. They dance about 10 hours a week,” said Jill Owenby, Chloe and Caitlyn’s mother.
The Rain Drops will perform a variety of routines at Thunder home games. Practicing once a week in OKC and performing once a month during the season takes a major commitment from the Owenby family.
By participating in the Rain Drops dance program, the girls receive professional dance instruction, a T-shirt, shoes, and Rain Drops uniforms.
“It was really hard and I’m really excited,” said Chloe.
“It’s an honor to be on the team and I think it’s really cool that they picked us out of 170 girls. I’m excited too,” said Caitlyn.
Not only are the girls and their family excited and proud of them but so is their Off the Wall dance instructor, Leah Wall.
“I’m so proud of them, they work so hard and love what they do,” Wall said. “They are very supportive of the other kids in the studio and that’s tops in my book.”
If you’re at a Thunder home game this season you just may see Chloe and Caitlyn showing off their skills at center court and representing Altus.
