Houck crowned Rodeo Queen


Mary Houck was crowned Rodeo Queen during the last night of the Great Plains Stampede Rodeo in Altus on Saturday night. Shelby Rogers was crowned the Rodeo Princess.

The Great Plains Stampede Rodeo was held Thursday through Saturday this past week. Rodeo fun included a longhorn cattle drive through Altus Air Force Base on Thursday, and a Rodeo Parade on Saturday. Thursday was designated as Military Appreciation Night at the rodeo, Friday was Family Night, and Saturday was “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” night.

Rodeo action Saturday night included Steer Wresting, Bareback Riding, Tie Down Roping, Team Roping, Barrel Racing and Bull Riding.

Steer Wrestling leaders were Trevor Nelson 4.5, Grady Payne 4.6, Matt Reeves 5.8, Austin Courmier 6.4, and Riley Duvall 6.5. The event was sponsored by Coors/SW Sales.

Tie Down leaders were Charlie Russell 9.7, Mason Miles Carter 9.8, Michael Perry 10.5, Clayton Collmorgan 10.8, and Tye Thompson 10.9. The event was sponsored by Days Inn.

Saddle Bronc leaders were Travis Sheets 83, Ryan Bestol 79, Garet Aldridge 73, and Jeremy Ray Melancon 72. The event was sponsored by KHOWL.

Barrel Racing leaders were Gretchen Benbenek 17.55, Shelia Morgan 17.62, Kim Couch 17.67, Laura Kight 17.67, and Baylee Snow 17.68. The event was sponsored by Tanya’s Skin Essentials.

Mary Houck was crowned Rodeo Queen during the last night of the Great Plains Stampede Rodeo in Altus on Saturday night. She is the 15-year-old daughter of Eric and Tiffany Houck. She attends school in Mangum.
