For the third game of the day, the Sweetwater Lady Bulldogs took on the Grandfield Lady Bearcats looking to end their winless streak and put a win in the left column, but the Lady Bearcats came ready to play and at the end of four, it was Grandfield on top, 43-35, to advance to the second round of the Frazer Bank Invitational.
Grandfield started quickly, scoring nine points to Sweetwater’s four in the first quarter before the Lady Bulldogs rallied back in the second, outscoring Grandfield, 10-3, to take a 14-12 lead into the break.
Following halftime, the two teams got after it again, only this time it was the Lady Bearcats who would gain the upper hand as the team got hot from 3-point range and put up 17 points to Sweetwater’s eight to retake the lead, 29-22.
The Lady Bearcats rode out the win by scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter to Sweetwater’s 13.
Grandfield’s Skyliana Dominguez finished with 14 points in the game while Addie Coody finished with 11. Mariska Licea had six and Kaylan Carman finished with five.
For the Lady Bulldogs, Autumn Dyess scored 18 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter while Veronica Watson and Angelina Myers each finished with four and Desteney Edwards and Elizabeth Rangel each chipped in three.
Grandfield will advance to play Tipton at 4:20 p.m. Friday while Sweetwater will take on Olustee at 11 a.m. Friday.
