The Sweetwater Lady Bulldogs picked up their first win of the season over the Olustee-Eldorado Lady Diamondbacks in the consolation bracket of the Frazer Bank Invitational on Friday.
The Lady Bulldogs and Lady Diamondbacks kicked off the second day of the tournament with a tightly contested 27-26 contest that saw the Lady Bulldogs move to 1-14 on the season.
Sweetwater took a 5-4 lead into the second quarter before Olustee-Eldorado rallied in the second and gained an 11-8 advantage heading into halftime. But the third quarter belonged to Sweetwater’s Autumn Dyess who scored nine points to go with Veronica Watson and Elizabeth Rangel’s two points. The big quarter allowed the Lady Bulldogs to enter the four quarter leading 21-17.
The Lady Diamondbacks added nine points in the final quarter, but Sweetwater’s six points ended up being all the Lady Bulldogs needed to walk away with the win and move on to the consolation championship game on Saturday.
Dyess led Sweetwater with nine points while Watson added eight and Rangel chipped in three. For Olustee-Eldorado, Tilly Garcia scored 12 points in the game while Maria Escobedo followed her with 10 points and Emerald Ellison chipped in three.
