The Sweetwater Bulldogs faced off against the Grandfield Bearcats on Friday following the conclusion of the Sweetwater Lady Bulldogs and Eldorado-Olustee Lady Diamondbacks game, and like the Lady Bulldogs, the Sweetwater boys edged Grandfield at the end to move on to the consolation championship on Saturday.
The Bulldogs live to fight another day after an exceptional fourth quarter from Drayton Lohberger propelled Sweetwater past Grandfield, 52-50. Lohberger was one of three Bulldogs to score in the fourth but made the biggest impact, scoring 10 of his 19 points in the final quarter. Colton Case also added 19 points in the Bulldogs win but did so in just three quarters.
Jamie Harrell added eight points to Sweetwater’s total and Dillon Farrell and Zeb Seymour each had two. For Grandfield, it was Wyatt Crossland who tried to single-handedly win the game for the Bearcats as he dropped nine points in the fourth quarter. He was the only Bearcat to score in quarter, and he finished the game with 22 points.
Martin Torres also scored 22 points through the first three quarters but was absent from the fourth quarter. De’Jion Couch, Avery Cromwell and Dayton Rodriguez each finished the game with two points.
The Sweetwater Bulldogs will face off against Tipton in the consolation championship at 2:20 p.m. Saturday.
