Posted

A match-up between the unbeaten and the winless played out as expected as the Duke Tigers steamrolled the Sweetwater Bulldogs, 98-27, during the opening round of Thursday’s Frazer Bank Invitational.

The Tigers started quickly and kept their foot on the gas as they poured in a whopping 34 points in the first quarter and held Sweetwater to just five.

To get Duke started, Matt Milner put up shot after shot and almost every one found the bottom of the basket as Duke surged ahead of the Bulldogs.

Thursday’s game featured the debut of Jameson Richardson, a transfer from Mangum who adds height and skill to an already impressive roster. Richardson entered the game in the first quarter and knocked down a 2-point jumpshot before sinking a pair of free throws, another 2-point jump shot and a 3-pointer.

Gage Milner, Mason Rice, Dawson Brooks and Noah Claussen also got involved in the first quarter with Brooks sinking one from 2-point range and another from deep for five points.

The rout continued in the second as Duke built a 63-17 lead going into the half. In the third quarter, the Tigers added 16 points and held Sweetwater to three and then topped it off with a 19-point fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Matt Milner led the Tigers with 26 points while Richardson finished just behind him with 25 points. Claussen finished with 11 points and Rice finished with 10.

For Sweetwater, Drayton Lohberger led the way with 15 points while Zeb Seymour knocked down a pair of 2-point buckets in the first to finish with four points alongside Colton Case who also scored four.

The Tigers advance in the tournament to battle Blair at 5:40 p.m. Friday while Sweetwater drops back to take on Grandfield at 12:20 p.m. Friday.
