Gene Leister was honored Tuesday night at the Altus City Council meeting. He worked 39 years at the City of Altus at the water plant. In 1993, he became the manager of the water plant. During his tenure, City Engineer Johnny Barron said there’s never been a low-pressure event or a boil water notice — a critical defense of the system. In 2010, when the water plant lost power for five days, Leister kept his pumps running, Barron said. Leister retired this month.
