Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troop M of Altus reported the deaths of two people in a vehicle collision on New Year’s Day. According to the report, at approximately 1:39 a.m. on Jan. 1, a 2009 Dodge driven by an unknown driver containing four occupants was involved in a single vehicle collision on County Road 203, north of U.S. 62 in Jackson County.
OHP is still investigating the cause of the collision. During the collision, 31-year-old Angila Lenard of Lawton and 80-year-old LJ Lenard of Altus were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Oklahoma Medical Examiner.
Two other occupants, 28-year-old Jason Lenard of Lawton and a one-month-old infant were taken to Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Lenard was later transported to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City and the infant was taken by Survival Flight to OU Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City. They were both admitted in stable condition. The infant suffered a head injury.
The vehicle was equiped with seat belts but none of them were being used by the occupants.
The collision was investigated by Troop M with the assistance of Altus Police, Altus Fire and Rescue, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Jackson County EMS and Survival Flight.
