The Altus All-Sports Association is hosting its annual golf tournament and fundraising event June 25 to kick off the new year for the association.

In the spring of 1987, the association was formed with the student athletes in mind. Their objective is to provide a balanced support group to the Altus High School athletes and ensure that each athlete is made aware that no matter the sport, each contribution is a as large a part of the team’s success as any other athletes’.

That is what they have been doing for nearly 30 years now.

One of the association’s contributions is the purchasing of letter jackets for all of Altus High School’s athletes who letter in their sport. It is something that not only benefits the athletes, but also the members of the association as well. It is an honor for an athlete to be awarded a letter jacket and the happiness brought to the athletes is what is all about for the members of the association. It is something they hope to always continue doing.

For more than 10 years now, the tournament has been a big help raising the funds needed for purchasing the letter jackets for athletes who letter and each year more than 40 players hit the greens to participate in the tournament in the hopes of raising money for this cause. The tournament also provides a way for alumni to meet other Altus High School Alumni, but mostly it is about having fun.

The tournament will be played at The Greens of Altus golf course just east of town on US 62. The tournament is being played in a two-person scramble format with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The tournament will have two different flights and teams will be drawn out of a hat, though requests for golfing partners will be considered. Prizes are awarded to the top four teams in each flight and the field is limited to the first 60 teams.

The tournament fee is $50 per person and that includes the green fees, a golf cart, door prizes contribution, lunch and drinks. If one has his or her own cart, the fee is only $45 per person.

Other possible fees include one mulligan per player at $5 and one gimme at $5.
