The Lawton Shockers are in Conway, Arkansas for the Regionals after claiming the Oklahoma State Championship last week. The Shockers survived yesterday’s first round action against Missouri, 7-5.
The game was back and forth most of the way after Missouri took the first inning lead, 1-0. The Shockers went up in the 3rd, 4-1. Missouri tied it in the 5th 4-4.
Missouri took the lead 5-4 in the 6th. Again Taylor Avila was in the right spot in the order to be the source of the drama as he squared another long fly. However, this time the left fielder jumped high and reached over the wall and brought back what would have been Avila’s 8th home run on the summer season from over the fence.
The Shockers managed a single and followed that with a double to tie the score at 5. Coach Eagle Fixico soften them up with fake bunts and slash. Once Missouri quit charging Fixico signaled for bunts. Christian Fixico laid down a nice one to load the bases.
A sacrifice fly and a ground ball to the right side scored a couple of runs that proved to be the game winners. “Dakota McGrory did a great job for us giving up one run in 4 2/3 innings of work,” said Coach Fixico. “Conner Bost of Anadarko had two hits and scored twice for us. Tucker White of Sterling had two hits and Avila had an RBI single.”
Next up is a showdown with Texas at 4:30.
