The Navajo Fury girls softball team is bound for a state tournament as top seed coming out of an end-of-season tournament in which they beat Canute 9-7 to end with a 5-0 record from the 19-team Elk City league.
The Fury includes all Navajo girls, most of whom have been together for nearly six years and they are scheduled to face off with Mullhall-Orlando Wave in Weatherford to open tournament play.
In addition to winning the Elk City tournament, the Fury also was runner-up in a preseason tournament losing to Canute in the championship game.
“I am so proud of my girls and what they have been able to accomplish over the years,” Coach Blake Jackson said. “I truly believe that if our girls are hitting on all cylinders this week we could go up to state are really make some noise. I feel that we have what it takes to bring home the state title. Our bats have really come alive as of late and our pitcher and catcher duo has been one of the best all year.”
