YUKON – The Altus Junior High girls traveled to Yukon for the Chisholm Trail Classic and came away with a fifth place finish in the 25-team field.

The Altus girls were defeated by three Edmond junior highs and champion Deer Creek.

The 3200 Relay team was comprised of Rylee Borrego, Sarah Scott, Cayden Beckner and Beth Garrison who took first place with a time of 11:00.

That time is one of the fastest junior high times in the state this year. Their biggest competition will be Weatherford at the

Conference meet in two weeks. Weatherford ran an 11:01 last week.

Altus received points in the 800 run when they took 3 of the top six positions.

Rylee Borrego ran her season best 2:39 to finish second while Beth Garrison (2:42) finished fifth and Cayden Beckner (2:43) finished sixth.

Garrison added a third place finish in the 1600 Run with a season best time of 6:18, knocking 10 seconds off of her best time of the year.

Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Dawgs was the 1600 Relay team who finished third with a time of 4:41. Team members were Borrego, Scott, Beckner and Annie Petzold.

“The girls did an outstanding job considering the competition they faced today,” said Coach Brandi Manning. “The girls who didn’t place still ran their best times of the season.”

Next action for the Lady Dawgs will be Tuesday, April 12 when they host the Altus Invitational Meet.
